Casino Jack

I just watched Casino Jack. I didn't realize it was inspired by real events. Nevertheless, the movie was good overall. I just thought Kevin Spacey's character was really annoying with the movie quotes and impersonations. Definitely worth watching if you like political movies. Just confirms what we all know about politicians and that is they are all dirty.

Netflix Summary:

Kevin Spacey stars in this drama as disgraced political lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who defrauded Native American tribes out of tens of millions of dollars in his efforts to peddle influence in Washington's corridors of power. As justice closes in on Abramoff and his associates, the audacious scope of his scams comes to light. Based on true events, this film from director George Hickenlooper co-stars Kelly Preston and Barry Pepper

A Dog Year

I love a good dog movie and for some reason I thought this was going to be funny.  However, the trailer lead me astray.  It was kind of a boring drama.  I can't recommend watching this movie because well it just wasn't good. The writing was bad and the overall storyline too linear. The character development was lacking as well.

This movie was a dog.

The Last Airbender movie

I watched the anime series and enjoyed it very much.  This movie was a big stinker.  The acting was awful. The condensed storyline didn't flow.  The character development was lacking.  A movie with potential ended up sucking big time.

Do not watch this movie and waste your time.  Instead rent the anime dvd's called Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Netflix summary:

In a world ravaged by the Fire nation's aggression toward the peaceful Air, Water and Earth nations, reluctant youth Aang (Noah Ringer) learns that he's an Avatar -- a rare being who can manipulate all four elements and restore peace to the planet. Now Aang must join with his pal Katara (Nicola Peltz) and other allies to fulfill his destiny. M. Night Shyamalan directs this live-action adaptation of the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

Salt

I was surprised at how good this movie was.  My expectations were lower because of Angelina Jolie's last movies and figured this would be about the same.

The storyline was good, the pace of the movie was fast, and overall the entire film was very entertaining.  I would highly recommend watching this movie.  Cheers!

Suck

This movie Suck turned out not to suck.  It was a vampire comedy film and had more than its fair share of laughs.  If you are in the mood for a decent movie that will make you laugh I would recommend watching this one.

Netflix Summary:

Singer Joey (Rob Stefaniuk) and his band, the Winners, will do anything for rock 'n' roll immortality. So when vampire Queeny (Dimitri Coats) bites into bassist Jennifer (Jessica Paré), the musical wannabes prove that vampires can rock, but stardom too often sucks. Malcolm McDowell stars as a vampire hunter, Henry Rollins as a radio show host, Iggy Pop as a producer, Alice Cooper as an evil bartender and Moby as a rock band's lead singer.

This movie sure had a lot of big musical names in it.  Check out the cast:

Earthlings documentary

This was the hardest documentary I have ever watched. It was emotional and gut wrenching. I think everyone should watch it from beginning to end at least once. It will change your your view of the world.

I embedded the video below.

Taken

I am not a big Liam Neeson fan, but he is a very good actor. He does an extremely good job in this movie and makes his character extremely believable. This action movie delivers a good pace and storyline. Definitely worth checking out with a bucket of popcorn.

Peacock

This was a weird movie to watch. It had an interesting setup but in the end I felt it came up short. It had a lot of potential to be a very good movie. That being said, you might want to watch it anyways because the acting was good. I might just be too harsh on the movie, but that's just the way I feel.

There were many mixed reviews on this film from both extremes of loving it and hating it. I was really in the middle.

Netflix summary:

Bank clerk John Skillpa (Cillian Murphy) hides a disturbing past from everyone in small-town Peacock, Neb. When a train jumps the tracks and crashes into John's backyard, his neighbors discover a confused woman named Emma milling about. Pandorum

This was a good sci fi action thriller. I thought it was pretty good for what it is. My wife guessed who the bad guy was early on which is always the older well known actor taking any part in lower quality films. I also liked mma fighter Cung Le fighting in this movie.

The movie had a good storyline, good pacing, and decent acting. I think the trailer is a good representation of what to expect to see. Watch it and enjoy. Cheers!

Netflix Summary:

Upon rousing themselves from hyper-sleep, Payton (Dennis Quaid) and Bower (Ben Foster), a pair of crewmen assigned to work on a spacecraft, discover startling gaps in their collective memory -- including who they are and what, exactly, their mission was in the first place. Icarus

Another action flick that I enjoyed. It wasn't the best but it entertained me. I have seen numerous Dolph Lundgren movies so I have a good idea of what to expect. Surprisingly the quality of this movie was better than I thought it would be, maybe because Lundgren directed the movie too.

Watch it and enjoy. Cheers!

The Marine 2

I admit it. I am a sucker for these mindless action flicks. Just like my enjoyment for horror movies, I lower my expectations whenever I watch these violent movies. I don't expect a great plot and just hope to be entertained. This movie is 50/50 for me.

It delivers what it sets out to do. Again, this is not a great movie but for an action movie it was better than OK. The trailer is a good indicator of what you will get. Cheers!

Netflix summary:

The Road

This is another one of those post-apocalyptic movies and is very dark in nature. This particular movie is put together well and does a good job making the post-apocalyptic world real. The acting was good and the pace of the movie was a bit slow at times, but acceptable. I think it is worth seeing once.

Watch it if you like these types of movies. Hope you enjoy it like I did. Cheers!

Netflix summary:

From the ash-covered, post-apocalyptic remains of Appalachia, the Father (Viggo Mortensen) and Son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) take to the road in search of a better life. Defendor

This movie Defendor with an O is actually fun to watch. I do like watching Woody Harrelson and have enjoyed the previous movies he has been in: 2012 and Zombieland.

I would recommend watching this movie with a bucket of popcorn. I think you will enjoy it like I did. Cheers!

Netflix summary:

Despite lacking any actual superpowers, Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson) transforms himself into costumed vigilante "Defendor." But danger beckons when the hero tries to protect young prostitute Kat (Kat Dennings) from an assailant. This clever drama -- writer-director Peter Stebbings's first feature -- also stars Sandra Oh as Arthur's court-appointed shrink and Elias Koteas as corrupt undercover cop Chuck Dooney.

Armored

This movie is very straightforward and predictable. The trailer pretty much shows you what to expect. I have seen these 3 actors: Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, and Jean Reno in many other films that I liked so I wanted to give this film a chance.

It is not a great movie but watchable. I wouldn't want to see it again, but I think if the trailer appeals to you then you might like the movie too.

Netflix Summary:

Armored truck guards Mike (Matt Dillon), Baines (Laurence Fishburne) and Quinn (Jean Reno) turn against one another after their plan to steal $10 million from their own company goes seriously haywire. A witness throws a wrench into their seemingly flawless strategy, so each man scrambles to save his own skin -- whatever the cost to the other conspirators. Nimród Antal directs and Columbus Short co-stars

Universal Soldier: Regeneration

This movie isn't as good as the original Universal Soldier that I enjoyed many years ago. Instead we have a much older Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren and mma fighter Andrei Arlovski in a futuristic action movie. Never the less, I enjoyed watching it and was entertained. I had much lower expectations watching this movie because I know both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren have been putting out bad movies in recent years.

If you want to watch a sci fi movie and lower your expectations, then you might enjoy this one too. Cheers!

Netflix Summary:

When a Chechen Islamic extremist threatens the world with another nuclear disaster centered in Chernobyl, Ukraine, futuristic supersoldier Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) leads a team to recapture the power plant and disarm the madman. But when the terrorist turns a clone of Deveraux's old sergeant (Dolph Lundgren) against him, the hero must first take out his old pal. John Hyams directs this installment in the Universal Soldier saga.

Coco Before Chanel

I love watching French movies and have previously seen Audrey Tautou in other movies notably Amelie which was a fun quirky movie. This movie is a drama based on Coco before she became famous. I thought it was well done and put together well. The acting was good and overall the movie was entertaining.

I enjoyed it and hope you to do too. Cheers!

Remember Me, My Love (Ricordati di me)

I had high expectations for this foreign film. The trailer looked good. I have seen the actors in other movies and they are good. Unfortunately, this movie missed the mark. I think it was just a bad storyline and the characters were unlikeable. All of them: father, son, daughter, and mother were just characters that annoyed me.

Don't let the trailer fool you and skip this unsatisfying movie.

Netflix Summary:

Failed novelist Carlos Ristuccia (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) works at a finance company while his wife (Laura Morante) toils as a teacher (after abandoning dreams of being an actress). With their ambitions jettisoned, the couple has instilled little self-esteem in their teenaged son and daughter, who struggle to find meaning in life. Meanwhile, Carlos rekindles an affair with a former flame (Monica Bellucci), triggering a marital and family crisis.

En Tu Ausencia (In Your Absence)

This movie received excellent praise at netflix. It is one of those films you either love or hate. I think it is really might come down to how you relate to the characters in the film.

Frankly I hated this movie. It was extremely slow paced, camera work was awful, and the music did not match. The quality of the film used seemed cheap too.

Netflix Summary:

While wandering the southern Spanish countryside, fatherless and lonely young Pablo (Gonzalo Sánchez Salas) crosses paths with a dapper stranger named Paco (Fransisco Alfonsin) and strikes up a friendship that will ultimately give rise to tragedy. First-time director Iván Noel's affecting drama also stars Anabel Azuar, Antonio J. Atienza Sánchez and Ana Tutor as Julia, Pablo's brazen worldly friend.

Facing Ali

If you are a fan of boxing or Muhammad Ali then I recommend you watch this film. There have been other good movies made on him, but this one is from the perspective of the people he fought in the ring. Some of the stuff I saw surprised me.

Enjoy:

But all say that facing Ali transformed their lives. Legion

The trailer looked good to me and this had some pretty big names.  I watched it and thought it had potential.  I was somewhat entertained even though it was predictable.  If you like apocalyptic type of movies, then you might like this movie.  If you don't then you might want to skip this one.  Watch the trailer and you should get a better feel for it.

Would I watch this again personally? Never.  That's not to say it is a bad movie, but it is not a good one either.

Netflix summary:

In the wake of an apocalypse of major proportions, a motley crew of survivors (including Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson and Kate Walsh) ekes out a living at an abandoned truck stop in the desert, never suspecting that the pregnant woman walking among them is carrying the Messiah. The Men Who Stare at Goats

I usually like George Clooney movies, but this one failed for me. I don't even know if this could have been a good movie. The acting is good, the plot interesting, but in the end just not entertaining.

I would say take a pass on this movie and watch Fantastic Mr Fox or Up in the Air. Those movies are much better and definitely enjoyable.

Netflix Summary:

Journalist Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) latches onto an unbelievable story in Iraq when he meets Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a man of mysterious origins who reveals he was a "warrior monk" trained by the U.S. Army to develop psychic powers. Jeff Bridges co-stars as Lyn's mentor, the man who dreamed up the top-secret operation. Kevin Spacey and Rebecca Mader co-star in this Grant Heslov-helmed wild spoof.

The Fourth Kind

This movie got alot of good reviews. I personally hated it and easily got bored. People who like Blair Witch Project or Paranormal might like this film. Apparently, my taste is different and would say avoid this film even though it has Milla Jovovich and Elias Koteas in it.

It is boring, tries to be real but something phony comes across instead, and has crappy shaky camera work. Don't know why these filmmakers want to make it a roller coaster ride effect.

I looked up the authenticity of the movie online, and it seems questionable from what I read. Again, take a pass on this crappy movie.

Netflix Summary:

When Alaskan psychiatrist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) begins videotaping her therapy sessions with clients, she uncovers petrifying evidence that they have experienced the fourth level of alien encounter: abduction. But as she finds more clues, she suspects that the government will do anything to conceal the truth. Olatunde Osunsanmi directs and Will Patton co-stars in this jarring thriller allegedly based on a true tale.

Survival of the Dead

I like watching zombie movies and accept them for what they are. Most are bad but there are always a few good ones. This particular movie Survival of the Dead was corny, boring, and not scary.

The idea behind this movie had potential. The execution just wasn't there. Pass on this and save your popcorn for another movie. Unless you want to fall asleep easy.

Netflix Summary:

Rebel military man Crocket (Alan Van Sprang) and his band of rogue soldiers seek refuge from the living dead, only to land squarely in a family feud between the undead-hating O'Flynns and the Muldoons, a cure-seeking clan determined to help their zombie kinfolk. Cult horror master George A. Romero rises again to deliver another delicious zombie fest where the festering question is: Can a caring family coexist with their flesh-eating loved ones?

Rain Fall

This was a good action thriller movie. I was entertained from beginning to end. The storyline was interesting and the acting was good.

I think if the trailer intrigues you enough, then you will probably enjoy the movie like I did. Cheers!

Netflix Summary:

In this action-thriller based on Barry Eisler's novel of the same name, Kippei Shiina stars as John Rain, a Special Forces veteran who now specializes in assassinating government officials and other VIPs. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo aka Män Som Hatar Kvinnor; Millennium: Part 1: Men Who Hate Women

This foreign thriller movie is from a trilogy book adaptation. Unless you speak Swedish, you will have to watch it with subtitles. The movie was very good and entertaining from beginning to end.

If you want to watch a different but good foreign movie, then you will want to see this. Enjoy!

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

I like crime drama and thrillers. I wish there were more good ones out there with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. This movie Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans with Nicolas Cage was good. I wasn't sure what to expect but the trailer and the genre made me want to see it.

I enjoyed it and think you will to. This is a good popcorn movie.

Netflix Summary:

Corrupt Det. Terence McDonaugh (Nicolas Cage) -- whose bad habits include pain drugs, reckless sports gambling and accepting sexual bribes -- investigates the murder of five Senegalese illegal immigrants in New Orleans. Co-starring Val Kilmer as McDonaugh's partner, Xzibit as drug supplier Big Fade and Eva Mendes as prostitute Frankie Donnenfield, director Werner Herzog's action drama is a loose update of Abel Ferrara's 1992 film, Bad Lieutenant.

Funny People

This comedy Funny People about funny people wasn't really funny. It had a couple of good jokes, but not enough. The characters were not likeable even though I like all the actors in this movie.

You know how sometimes the trailer shows all the good stuff in a movie. Well, this is one of those movies. Pass on this movie and watch SuperBad or Click or any of their other movies.

Netflix Summary:

Famous and wealthy funnyman George Simmons (Adam Sandler) doesn't give much thought to how he treats people until a doctor (Torsten Voges) delivers stunning health news, forcing George to reevaluate his priorities with a little help from aspiring stand-up comic Ira (Seth Rogen). Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) writes and directs this moving comedy that also stars Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza.

The Descent: Part 2

I watched the first horror movie The Descent and that was both scary and good. Usually the follow up movies aren't as good. This movie's sequel is an exception.

It was a good scary movie. If you are in the mood for a horror thriller, then movie this will fit the bill. Enjoy!

Netflix Summary:

In this gruesome thriller, blood-drenched Sarah Carter (Shauna MacDonald) surfaces as the lone escapee from the savage cave-dwelling Crawlers that terrorized her and five others. And Sarah once again battles to cheat death, as she clings to the hope that her friends are alive.

The Time Traveler's Wife

This movie is based on a book that I didn't read. I am sure the book is better than the movie (they always are), but I enjoyed this movie anyways. Time travel is just one of those subject matters that interest me. Like the Back to the Future trilogy with Michael J Fox.

The acting was decent, storyline understandable, and overall this romance movie was entertaining. Grab some popcorn and watch it when you get a chance.

Netflix Summary:

Due to a genetic disorder, handsome librarian Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) involuntarily zips through time, appearing at various moments in the life of his true love, the beautiful artist Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams). Also starring Ron Livingston as Gomez, the soul-stirring romantic drama was adapted from the best-selling Audrey Niffenegger novel by Bruce Joel Rubin, the screenwriter behind the beloved weepy Ghost.

The Final Destination 4 aka Final Destination 4; Final Destination: Death Trip

I have always liked these thriller movies that involve the future or visions. I have watched all the Final Destination movies which are all decent. The first one was probably the best.

However this latest release was pretty good. I enjoyed it and think you will too. So grab some popcorn and have some fun.

Netflix Summary:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I meant to watch this movie a long time ago, but just never got to it until now. The trailer looked good and it had strong actors in it. However, I didn't want to get my expectations to high as to avoid disappointment.

This romantic movie was very enjoyable and definitely different. The acting was solid, the storyline great, and the pace of the movie kept me interested all the way to the very end. I would definitely recommend watching this one.

Netflix Summary:

Scott Fitzgerald. The plot throws linear conventions upside down to explore love, loss and memory from the perspective of a character living under incredibly unique -- and unexpectedly difficult -- circumstances. Cate Blanchett co-stars.

Carriers 2009

I like watching scary horror movies. Unfortunately, you have to watch alot of bad ones before you see a good one. It is much easier to enjoy them if you lower your expectations and focus on being entertained.

This movie had a good trailer and started out fine. But by the end of the movie, I regretted watching it. The characters were annoying and the story was too weak. This made the movie start to seem longer than it was. Avoid this one and eat your popcorn with some other movie.

Netflix Summary:

As a lethal virus spreads across the globe, brothers Brian (Chris Pine) and Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), along with Bobby (Piper Perabo) and Kate (Emily VanCamp), seek a supposed plague-free haven. Real-life brothers Alex Pastor and David Pastor write and direct this apocalyptic chiller, which co-stars Christopher Meloni.

Good Hair with Chris Rock

This movie is actually a documentary with Chris Rock. The subject matter is focused on the business of hair. I am surprised about how much women pay for wigs and weaves. It is insane.

Both my wife and I enjoyed this movie. It made us laugh a few times, but most of all it is informative. Check it out.

Netflix Summary:

Actor and stand-up comic Chris Rock hops around the world going from beauty salons to science labs to comb through the mystery of African American hair in director Jeff Stilson's astute, hilarious documentary. Rock contemplates the purpose and application of a weave as well as women's self-esteem and their locks. He also gains varying insights from Ice-T, Nia Long, Rev. Al Sharpton, Raven-Symoné, Maya Angelou and other celebrities.

A Single Man

This was a good movie with good acting and an interesting storyline. I didn't really hear anything about this when it came out even though Colin Firth was nominated for an Oscar in this role. I think it might be because of the subject matter. Anyways, it was enjoyable and worth watching.

Netflix Summary:

This stream-of-consciousness, 1960s-era drama centers on a day in the life of George Falconer (Colin Firth, in an Oscar-nominated role), an English-born, Los Angeles college professor reeling from the recent death of his lover of 16 years. Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, Ginnifer Goodwin, Lee Pace and Nicholas Hoult co-star.

Ninja Scroll

I do enjoy a good anime movie and this Ninja Scroll was pretty good. It received raving 5 star reviews, but I wouldn't go that far. I thought it was just pretty good.

Be forewarned that this particular anime is adult oriented. I was initially shocked when I watched because I wasn't aware of it. This one is definitely not for kids.

If you like anime, then I think you will enjoy this film.

Netflix Summary:

But Jubei succumbs to an elderly ninja's treachery and finds himself facing certain death -- unless he agrees to join the quest for vengeance. Set in feudal Japan, writer-director Yoshiaki Kawajiri's thrilling anime feature is bloody, violent and full of imagination.

Dear John

This movie for me was just so so. At times it was annoying because of the decisions the characters make in the story. Would I watch it again? Heck no. Could I recommend watching this movie? No, I would say pass on this one.

I would probably go watch the Notebook again for a better love story. That one is much better.

Netflix Summary:

While on leave, U.S. soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) falls for Southern college student Savannah (Amanda Seyfried), whose ideals and heartfelt principles are at once attractive and unfamiliar. But their love is put on hold when terrorist attacks prompt John to reenlist. Now, handwritten letters hold the lovers together. Lasse Hallstrom directs this modern romance based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks.

Pirate Radio

This music themed movie was better than I expected. The trailer didn't look appealing to me, but the movie was much better. It had good acting, an interesting storyline, and overall kept my interest. I would recommend you watching this.

Battle of the Warriors aka Mo gong

I personally enjoy these period piece movies. This one was a bit long, but enjoyable for me. I didn't have the foreign language version with subtitles. I had to suffer with the English dubbing. You know the type of film where they try to make the words fit in with the mouth movements.

Netflix Summary:

Tension swirls in ancient China as the evil Zhao commander Xiang Yan-zhong (Sung-kee Ahn) sets his sights on conquering the small city-state of Liang, where the residents would be otherwise defenseless if it weren't for the valiant warrior Ge Li (Andy Lau). Jacob C.L. Cheung (Hero) directs this epic action-drama based on the popular Japanese manga, based in turn on a Japanese novel about China's Warring States Period.

New York, I Love You

  • First of all, they sure had a lot of actors in this movie? Many actors I have enjoyed in other movies. The acting was great, but the movie was boring. I would like to say it is awful because it just doesn't keep my interest. Such a waste of talent and effort. I have seen many movies that try to take a slice of life, but this particular attempt was convoluted and strained.

You can watch it because I am sure it has actors that you like too. But I personally can't recommend it nor would I ever watch it again.

From Central Park to Brooklyn and Queens, each tale features the Big Apple as a central character. The writer-directors include Natalie Portman and Brett Ratner, and the cast features Shia LaBeouf, James Caan, Julie Christie, Christina Ricci, Ethan Hawke and dozens more.

Tokyo Sonata

This was a great foreign film that my wife picked to watch. I was impressed with the way the story is told from the point of views from every family member. I think there were many metaphors in the film on Japanese culture and of today's times. Bottom line is I enjoyed this movie very much and think you will too.

Netflix Summary:

From Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa comes a drama about the Sasakis, an ordinary Japanese family living a bucolic life -- until the father is abruptly laid off from his job and decides to keep the news from his wife and kids. Soon, the father's sense of shame, and the indignity he faces while passing each day in the park in his suit and tie, quickly turns into a rage that proves to hold irrevocable consequences for all concerned

Sherlock Holmes

Just watched this movie Sherlock Holmes with an updated story and with a big Hollywood actors cast in the roles. I was expecting less but got more. It was a very entertaining movie and made me laugh a few times. Definitely worth watching so check it out.

Saint Ives aka All for Love

This is a period piece made in 1998 but even though it is old it made me laugh. The movie was good but the humor injected in it makes me recommend it even more. Watch it and enjoy.

Netflix Summary:

During the Napoleonic Wars, the British capture French officer Viscount Jacques St. Ives (Jean-Marc Barr) and send him to Scotland as a prisoner. He falls in love with local beauty Flora (Anna Friel), who's also being courted by the prison warden, Major Chevening (Richard E. Grant). While St. Ives teaches the major a few things about women, Flora arranges his escape and reunites him with his long-lost grandfather in this light-hearted romp.

The Four Feathers

This was another period piece that I thought was very insightful. I liked the view of the British Empire from a person who didn't approve of what they were doing. The main character had to prove he was no longer a coward because of his friends and fiance made him feel bad. I thought it was a silly decision but important to have for a storyline.

I liked the movie and it had some good acting by:

Heath Ledger, Wes Bentley, Kate Hudson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Sheen, Kris Marshall, Alek Wek, Lucy Gordon, Alex Jennings, Tim Pigott-Smith

Netflix Summary:

In 1898 Sudan, Harry Faversham (Heath Ledger), a British officer, resigns his post right before a battle against rebels (the battle of Omdurman), prompting his fiancée (Kate Hudson) and three friends to give him four white feathers as a symbol of what they perceive to be cowardice. Little do they know he's going undercover and may soon have the chance to redeem himself in their eyes. This classic adventure is based on the novel by A.E.W. Mason.

10 Things I Hate About You

I had seen this movie many years ago, but wanted to see it again with my wife. We were on a streak of watching some bad movies, then on a streak of good movies, and just wanted to continue watching decent movies.

Even though this is a corny high school romantic comedy, there are big named actors in it. They are super young in it and it is interesting to see all the movies they did after and how there professional lives unfolded. I would still give this a recommendation to watch, even though it is a bit dated.

On a side note, I have been to Seattle twice since I originally watched this movie and it was fun knowing all the landmarks and even the neighborhood this was filmed in. It made me check out my old Seattle trip photos.

Netflix Summary:

After learning that Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik) is forbidden to date until man-hating older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) finds a beau, Bianca's would-be boyfriend hatches a plan: Pay moody school rebel Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) to escort the churlish Kat around town. Larry Miller plays the siblings' overprotective dad in this witty farce that transplants William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" to a contemporary Seattle high school.

It's Complicated

This movie was a fun Hollywood type of movie with great big named actors. I think my wife and I needed to see a decent movie that was light hearted and this did the trick. It is funny at times and definitely makes you smile.

I am in my 40s so that might make this comedy funnier than it really is. As long as you know what you will be watching, I think you will enjoy it too. I recommend watching this romantic comedy movie.

Netflix Summary:

Ten years after their divorce, Jane (Meryl Streep) and Jake (Alec Baldwin) enjoy an amicable friendship. When the two unite for their son's college graduation, their romance is rekindled. But Jake is married, and Jane's architect, Adam (Steve Martin), has a thing for her. Now cheating on the younger woman for whom he left Jane, Jake wants his ex-wife back. But Jane's busy getting to know Adam. Nancy Meyers(Something's Gotta Give) wrote and directed this Golden Globe-nominated comedy.

The Counterfeiters

This period piece is during World War 2 and deals with the Jewish people and Nazis in a special concentration camp with the purpose of counterfeiting pounds and dollars for war purposes. I don't know if this actually happened historically, but I am sure it was an idea that was kicked around.

This movie was put together very well. The character development was good. Not just the main character but all the supporting characters on both sides. The storyline and plot was good, too and told from the perspective of the survivor. Even though this story isn't original, the movie is directed well that you never lose interest at any time.

You might have to be in the mood to see it, but I recommend you watching this movie.

Netflix Summary:

Facing an ethical quandary, Jewish master forger Salomon Sorowitsch (Karl Markovics) must choose between abetting the Nazis and saving his own skin in this taut, Oscar-winning drama based on actual events during World War II. Assembled at a death camp, a cadre of printers, artists and chiselers is tasked with counterfeiting currencies to weaken Allied economies. But will Sorowitsch's conscience begin to gnaw at him as the war draws to a close?

Sauna aka Filth

This was a crappy movie. Again, I am mislead by the netflix community into thinking this was an Indie or Art House type movie with their glowing reveiws. I should have known by the previews on the dvd before the movie started, that I would hate this movie.

This is a foreign movie that pretends to be a horror movie but it is mostly a drama. The characters are all unlikeable. The plot simply fails from beginning to end. The movie is slow paced and could have been told in 10 minutes.

Avoid this movie! The trailer is better than the whole movie.

Netflix Summary:

While mapping the new border with Russia in 1595, Finnish soldier brothers Erik (Ville Virtanen) and Knut (Tommi Eronen) stumble upon a spooky, almost-childless undocumented town. There, they find a mysterious sauna that forces all who enter it to face their past sins. Finnish director Antti-Jussi Annila's masterfully atmospheric horror film screened at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival.

The Hitch Hiker

This animation is not worth renting. The show is simply the original radio show broadcast with some poor animation to correspond to it. Again, another high rated netflix movie that fails to deliver.

Not worth the time looking for the trailer and posting it here if it does exist.

Netflix Summary:

Applying modern animation techniques to vintage radio theater, director Michael Anthony Jackson tells a spine-tingling tale of a man (voiced by Orson Welles) who descends into madness over the course of a cross-country road trip. This uniquely rendered thriller is based on the 1940s radio play by Lucille Fletcher and was considered by Welles to be one of the greatest suspense plays ever written for the medium.

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

This vampire comedy movie was OK but didn't deliver too many laughs for me. It was corny but not really humorous. It seems like it was written and executed poorly.

I was surprised to see some of the big actor names like John C. Reilly, Salma Hayek, and Willem Dafoe in it. Even they could not save this movie. It ends with the promise of a sequel. I am not sure why. I was not entertained by this movie and don't think you will be either.

For some reason, I thought it would be pretty good from the trailer. I was wrong.

Netflix Summary:

Things get freaky fast for 16-year-old Darren Shan (Chris Massoglia) when his friend (Josh Hutcherson) takes him to a circus that's chockfull of sideshow oddities. There, he meets vampire Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) and receives a life-changing bite on the neck. As the newest member of the mysterious Cirque du Freak troupe, Darren keeps company with Madame Truska (Salma Hayek) and sparks a war between the vampires and their rivals.

The Hangover

If I judged this movie by its trailer, I would of simply passed on it. My wife and I decided to give it a shot even though it looked like a predictable comedy. I remember it getting many bad reviews when it was released in the theaters.

Surprise! We liked it. It was not a great movie but it did make us laugh through out the movie. That is what a comedy is suppose to do so they accomplished that. As long as you don't expect more than a few laughs, I think you can enjoy your popcorn watching this movie.

Netflix Summary:

When three friends (Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper) finally come to after a raucous night of bachelor-party revelry, they find a baby in the closet and a tiger in the bathroom. But they can't seem to locate their best friend, Doug (Justin Bartha) -- who's supposed to be tying the knot. Launching a frantic search for Doug, the trio perseveres through a nasty hangover to try to make it to the church on time in this Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy.

The Invention of Lying

This movie had an interesting idea. Kind of the opposite of Jim Carrey's Liar Liar. I even like most of Ricky Gervais' movies. I think the movie is funny for about the first 15 minutes, but then it starts to take itself to seriously in developing a long and boring plot.

The development of the characters only makes them more unlikeable and nonsensical. And quite honestly after 45 minutes, the movie just starts to painstakingly drag. The ending is predictable and goes in the Hollywood happy ending way, but by then it is just too late to redeem itself.

You will get a couple of laughs from this romantic comedy, but it doesn't make it worth your time. Skip it in my opinion and save your popcorn for one of Gervais's other movies.

Netflix Summary:

In a world where no one fibs, fiction doesn't exist and people take each other at their literal word, unsuccessful screenwriter Mark (Ricky Gervais) gains fame and fortune -- and maybe the girl of his dreams (Jennifer Garner) -- by saying things that aren't true. Gervais co-writes and co-directs this original comedy that co-stars Rob Lowe. Look for cameos by Tina Fey,Jonah Hill, Louis C.K. and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Wonderful World

I thought this was a comedy because Matthew Broderick was in it. I was wrong. This is a drama and had very little humor in it.

There were some good things about this movie that I liked, but I don't think I can recommend you watching it. The trailer looked funny to me, but the movie isn't anything that I expected. Not good but not bad. There were scenes that I liked in the film when the main character gets inspired and decides to make changes in his life even though it goes against his heavily ingrained negative attitude.

Again, for some reason the trailer made me think it was a comedy.

Netflix Summary:

Dejected, divorced and jobless, Ben Singer (Matthew Broderick) is not inclined to see his glass as half-full. But when his roommate falls ill and Singer must host the man's Senegalese sister (Sanaa Lathan) in their apartment, his outlook begins to change. Darkman writer Josh Goldin makes his directorial debut with this drama (which he also wrote) about the attitude-adjusting romance that blossoms between Singer and Khadi.

The Lovely Bones

I didn't know what to expect from this movie. It had some big stars in it, but I knew it was about a murder from a child's point of view. From the trailer, I thought the girl's spirit tells her living father who her murderer is and he kills the murderer.

A couple of other things I thought the movie captured was the innocence of that time. It just seemed safer back then. I do remember a time when child predators were not as common as they are now today. Now we have pictures of kids on milk cartons and amber alerts.

The plot was very creative from beginning to end. Don't worry though, it makes sense through out the whole movie and is easy to follow. I liked the movie and would recommend it.

What is surprising is that this movie didn't get nominated for an Oscar considering all the 10 movie nominations. This was better than half of the nominated films and more deserving.

Netflix Summary:

When 14-year-old Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is murdered, she watches from above as her family deals with her tragic death -- and as her killer prepares to strike again. Torn between vengeance and healing, Susie's loved ones are forever changed.Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz star in Peter Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's riveting, best-selling novel; Susan Sarandon and Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci co-star.

Prête-moi ta main aka I Do: How to Get Married and Stay Single

This was a movie that redeems itself in the end. In the beginning, I didn't care for any of the characters. They were all arrogant, rude, and selfish. However as the movie progresses, the characters become better developed and you start to like them.

The whole storyline is different and completely unpredictable. Of course, the ending was done in Hollywood fashion, so that part was telegraphed. Even so, the movie was entertaining and enjoyable. I think if this was an American made movie it may have just been simply corny.

This is a French movie and requires reading English subtitles unless you understand the language. I couldn't find a preview with the subtitles.

Netflix Summary:

Successful perfume executive Luis (Alain Chabat) is happily single, but his mother and sisters want him to settle down. After they arrange a string of disastrous blind dates, Luis concocts a crazy scheme that will make his family happy without his getting married. All he needs to do is hire a girl to act as his fiancée and then dump him at the altar. But when Luis meets Emmanuelle, the plan takes a turn he never anticipated in this French comedy.

The Line aka La Linea

I really wanted to see an crime action thriller type of movie. It doesn't seem to be that many out there that looked appealing to watch. I found this movie The Line which is not an action or thriller but more of a crime drama. It had some big actors in it, but I never saw previews of this when it came out.

I thought the movie was better than decent and would recommend watching it. It is slow paced and really more of a crime drama film. In the end, the plot comes together with a twist. The acting is good and the cast fairly strong.

Netflix Summary:

Seasoned assassin Mark Shields (Ray Liotta) hunts down Salazar crime cartel leader Pelon (Esai Morales) in Tijuana, Mexico. Meanwhile, he becomes involved with Olivia (Valerie Cruz), a mother and meth addict struggling to clean up her act and improve her daughter's life. Andy Garcia, Armand Assante and Danny Trejo co-star in this action-packed crime drama inspired by the infamous Francisco Arellano Félix drug cartel.

Law Abiding Citizen

I like Gerard Butler movies but don't care for Jamie Foxx. I decided to watch the movie hoping Foxx would not ruin it for me. Overall, the movie was very decent, but would have been better if someone else was cast in his roll like Denzel Washington.

This did have a Hollywood ending and would have been much better if they allowed Butler to succeed in bringing down the system. In the end, the director took the safe route which made it a predictable movie.

Worth watching once, but there are better movies out there that are much more entertaining.

Netflix Summary:

Traumatized by the atrocious murders of his wife and daughter -- and the flawed justice system that set the killers free -- Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) gives in to his rage and sets out on a course of vengeance. He soon takes on not only the prosecutor involved in the case, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), but also the city of Philadelphia. Director F. Gary Gray's bold crime thriller co-stars Viola Davis andMichael Gambon.
