Law Abiding Citizen

I like Gerard Butler movies but don't care for Jamie Foxx. I decided to watch the movie hoping Foxx would not ruin it for me. Overall, the movie was very decent, but would have been better if someone else was cast in his roll like Denzel Washington.

This did have a Hollywood ending and would have been much better if they allowed Butler to succeed in bringing down the system. In the end, the director took the safe route which made it a predictable movie.

Worth watching once, but there are better movies out there that are much more entertaining.

Netflix Summary:

Traumatized by the atrocious murders of his wife and daughter -- and the flawed justice system that set the killers free -- Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) gives in to his rage and sets out on a course of vengeance. He soon takes on not only the prosecutor involved in the case, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx), but also the city of Philadelphia. Director F. Gary Gray's bold crime thriller co-stars Viola Davis andMichael Gambon.

Gamer or Citizen Game

What happens when you put the star of Dexter's Michael C. Hall, the star of 300's Gerard Butler, and throw in a famous rap star Chris Bridges aka Ludacris? You get this futuristic gaming movie called Gamer. The question is does it succeed?

For me I had low expectations because the preview looked dumb. I could tell this would be a bad movie. However, it has people I like from Dexter and 300, so maybe there was the possibility it could be at least entertaining.

The technology was good, the storyline was fair, and it even had a happy Hollywood ending. Did I like it? No. Did I hate it? No. What I recommend it? No I wouldn't. I would think you would be better advised to watch Dexter season 1,2,3 or 4 or 300 if you really want to be entertained.

Netflix Summary:

It's 2034, and humans can control and kill each other in a large-scale online gaming world. But Kable (Gerard Butler), a wrongfully convicted soldier forced to join the violent competition, tries to free himself by taking out its evil architect, Ken (Michael C. Hall). While being controlled by a rich kid (Logan Lerman), Kable must also save his wife, Angie (Amber Valletta), who's trapped in her own avatar world.

Dracula 2000

I love vampire movies even if most of them are bad. I am glad they are more popular now than ever before. This oldie but goodie had many stars that have become big names now. Dracula was played by Gerard Butler of 300 fame. I must say he looked extremely young and at first I don't think I would recognize him right away.

The rest of the cast included Christopher Plummer, Jonny Lee Miller, Justine Waddell, Jennifer Esposito, and Omar Epps. I have seen many of these actors in other movies.

Now, I can't say there are a lot of good old vampire movies. I am a fan of True Blood, Interview with a Vampire, and Twilight, but I don't expect the older stuff to be as entertaining. This movie was a bit more original in its explanation of silver, crosses, holy water, etc and why Dracula dislikes them. You learn about that at the end of the movie. If you are Christian, you might be offended by the movie and bible tie ins, but I thought it was original and well done.

Anyways, I don't summarize the plot of the movie and give it away. I just want you to know it was enjoyable to watch and would recommend you seeing it. This is definitely worth renting and eating a bucket of popcorn with it.

The Ugly Truth, Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler

I had very low expectations of this movie even though I like the 2 main stars. Gerard Butler from 300 and Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy fame. I saw the preview and based on that I thought OK anther stinky romantic comedy with 2 currently popular stars. I had seen 27 dresses and some other lame movie Heigl was in and I think that may have influenced my expectations.

Nevertheless, it is a new movie and you can't judge it without watching it. I really thought Butler did a good job playing his character and Heigl was not the annoying Lizzy from G.A. The movie was put together well and got me to laugh a few times.

It was definitely predictable as most romantic comedies are, but the characters, actors, and storyline delivered. I would recommend watching it if you are on the fence.
