Defendor

This movie Defendor with an O is actually fun to watch. I do like watching Woody Harrelson and have enjoyed the previous movies he has been in: 2012 and Zombieland.

I would recommend watching this movie with a bucket of popcorn. I think you will enjoy it like I did. Cheers!

Netflix summary:

But danger beckons when the hero tries to protect young prostitute Kat (Kat Dennings) from an assailant. This clever drama -- writer-director Peter Stebbings's first feature -- also stars Sandra Oh as Arthur's court-appointed shrink and Elias Koteas as corrupt undercover cop Chuck Dooney.

Armored

This movie is very straightforward and predictable. The trailer pretty much shows you what to expect. I have seen these 3 actors: Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, and Jean Reno in many other films that I liked so I wanted to give this film a chance.

It is not a great movie but watchable. I wouldn't want to see it again, but I think if the trailer appeals to you then you might like the movie too.

Netflix Summary:

Armored truck guards Mike (Matt Dillon), Baines (Laurence Fishburne) and Quinn (Jean Reno) turn against one another after their plan to steal $10 million from their own company goes seriously haywire. A witness throws a wrench into their seemingly flawless strategy, so each man scrambles to save his own skin -- whatever the cost to the other conspirators. Nimród Antal directs and Columbus Short co-stars

Universal Soldier: Regeneration

This movie isn't as good as the original Universal Soldier that I enjoyed many years ago. Instead we have a much older Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren and mma fighter Andrei Arlovski in a futuristic action movie. Never the less, I enjoyed watching it and was entertained. I had much lower expectations watching this movie because I know both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren have been putting out bad movies in recent years.

If you want to watch a sci fi movie and lower your expectations, then you might enjoy this one too. Cheers!

Netflix Summary:

When a Chechen Islamic extremist threatens the world with another nuclear disaster centered in Chernobyl, Ukraine, futuristic supersoldier Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) leads a team to recapture the power plant and disarm the madman. But when the terrorist turns a clone of Deveraux's old sergeant (Dolph Lundgren) against him, the hero must first take out his old pal. John Hyams directs this installment in the Universal Soldier saga.

Coco Before Chanel

I love watching French movies and have previously seen Audrey Tautou in other movies notably Amelie which was a fun quirky movie. This movie is a drama based on Coco before she became famous. I thought it was well done and put together well. The acting was good and overall the movie was entertaining.

I enjoyed it and hope you to do too. Cheers!

Netflix summary:

Audrey Tautou stars as legendary French designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel in this lively biopic that explores the fashion icon's storied ascension from orphan to seamstress and cabaret singer and ultimately, the queen of Parisian haute couture. Alessandro Nivola plays Arthur "Boy" Capel, Chanel's lover and influential business investor who makes a lifelong impact on the young woman. Anne Fontaine directs this Oscar nominee for Best Costume Design.

Cast:Audrey Tautou, Benoit Poelvoorde, Alessandro Nivola, Marie Gillain, Emmanuelle Devos, Régis Royer, Etienne Bartholomeus, Yan Duffas, Fabien Béhar, Roch Leibovici

Remember Me, My Love (Ricordati di me)

I had high expectations for this foreign film. The trailer looked good. I have seen the actors in other movies and they are good. Unfortunately, this movie missed the mark. I think it was just a bad storyline and the characters were unlikeable. All of them: father, son, daughter, and mother were just characters that annoyed me.

Don't let the trailer fool you and skip this unsatisfying movie.

Netflix Summary:

Failed novelist Carlos Ristuccia (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) works at a finance company while his wife (Laura Morante) toils as a teacher (after abandoning dreams of being an actress). With their ambitions jettisoned, the couple has instilled little self-esteem in their teenaged son and daughter, who struggle to find meaning in life. Meanwhile, Carlos rekindles an affair with a former flame (Monica Bellucci), triggering a marital and family crisis.

En Tu Ausencia (In Your Absence)

This movie received excellent praise at netflix. It is one of those films you either love or hate. I think it is really might come down to how you relate to the characters in the film.

Frankly I hated this movie. It was extremely slow paced, camera work was awful, and the music did not match. The quality of the film used seemed cheap too.

Netflix Summary:

While wandering the southern Spanish countryside, fatherless and lonely young Pablo (Gonzalo Sánchez Salas) crosses paths with a dapper stranger named Paco (Fransisco Alfonsin) and strikes up a friendship that will ultimately give rise to tragedy. First-time director Iván Noel's affecting drama also stars Anabel Azuar, Antonio J. Atienza Sánchez and Ana Tutor as Julia, Pablo's brazen worldly friend.

Facing Ali

If you are a fan of boxing or Muhammad Ali then I recommend you watch this film. There have been other good movies made on him, but this one is from the perspective of the people he fought in the ring. Some of the stuff I saw surprised me.

Enjoy:

Netflix Summary:

But all say that facing Ali transformed their lives. Legion

The trailer looked good to me and this had some pretty big names.  I watched it and thought it had potential.  I was somewhat entertained even though it was predictable.  If you like apocalyptic type of movies, then you might like this movie.  If you don't then you might want to skip this one.  Watch the trailer and you should get a better feel for it.

Would I watch this again personally? Never.  That's not to say it is a bad movie, but it is not a good one either.

Netflix summary:

In the wake of an apocalypse of major proportions, a motley crew of survivors (including Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson and Kate Walsh) ekes out a living at an abandoned truck stop in the desert, never suspecting that the pregnant woman walking among them is carrying the Messiah. Paul Bettany co-stars in this thriller as the archangel Michael, who was sent to Earth to steer humankind away from darkness and toward the light.

The Men Who Stare at Goats

I usually like George Clooney movies, but this one failed for me. I don't even know if this could have been a good movie. The acting is good, the plot interesting, but in the end just not entertaining.

I would say take a pass on this movie and watch Fantastic Mr Fox or Up in the Air. Those movies are much better and definitely enjoyable.

Netflix Summary:

Journalist Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) latches onto an unbelievable story in Iraq when he meets Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a man of mysterious origins who reveals he was a "warrior monk" trained by the U.S. Army to develop psychic powers. Jeff Bridges co-stars as Lyn's mentor, the man who dreamed up the top-secret operation. Kevin Spacey and Rebecca Mader co-star in this Grant Heslov-helmed wild spoof.

Cast:George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, Robert Patrick, Stephen Lang, Stephen Root, Glenn Morshower, Waleed Zuaiter, Rebecca Mader, Nick Offerman

The Fourth Kind

This movie got alot of good reviews. I personally hated it and easily got bored. People who like Blair Witch Project or Paranormal might like this film. Apparently, my taste is different and would say avoid this film even though it has Milla Jovovich and Elias Koteas in it.

It is boring, tries to be real but something phony comes across instead, and has crappy shaky camera work. Don't know why these filmmakers want to make it a roller coaster ride effect.

I looked up the authenticity of the movie online, and it seems questionable from what I read. Again, take a pass on this crappy movie.

Netflix Summary:

When Alaskan psychiatrist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) begins videotaping her therapy sessions with clients, she uncovers petrifying evidence that they have experienced the fourth level of alien encounter: abduction. But as she finds more clues, she suspects that the government will do anything to conceal the truth. Olatunde Osunsanmi directs and Will Patton co-stars in this jarring thriller allegedly based on a true tale.

Survival of the Dead

I like watching zombie movies and accept them for what they are. Most are bad but there are always a few good ones. This particular movie Survival of the Dead was corny, boring, and not scary.

The idea behind this movie had potential. The execution just wasn't there. Pass on this and save your popcorn for another movie. Unless you want to fall asleep easy.

Netflix Summary:

Rebel military man Crocket (Alan Van Sprang) and his band of rogue soldiers seek refuge from the living dead, only to land squarely in a family feud between the undead-hating O'Flynns and the Muldoons, a cure-seeking clan determined to help their zombie kinfolk. Cult horror master George A. Romero rises again to deliver another delicious zombie fest where the festering question is: Can a caring family coexist with their flesh-eating loved ones?

Rain Fall

This was a good action thriller movie. I was entertained from beginning to end. The storyline was interesting and the acting was good.

I think if the trailer intrigues you enough, then you will probably enjoy the movie like I did. Cheers!

Netflix Summary:

In this action-thriller based on Barry Eisler's novel of the same name, Kippei Shiina stars as John Rain, a Special Forces veteran who now specializes in assassinating government officials and other VIPs. Max Mannix directs this drama that also features Misa Shimizu.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo aka Män Som Hatar Kvinnor; Millennium: Part 1: Men Who Hate Women

This foreign thriller movie is from a trilogy book adaptation. Unless you speak Swedish, you will have to watch it with subtitles. The movie was very good and entertaining from beginning to end.

If you want to watch a different but good foreign movie, then you will want to see this. Enjoy!

Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) and rebellious computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) team up to investigate the unsolved disappearance of wealthy Henrik Vanger's (Sven-Bertil Taube) teen niece (Ewa Fröling), only to uncover dark secrets about Vanger's powerful family. Niels Arden Oplev directs this Swedish thriller based on the first novel from Stieg Larsson's best-selling trilogy.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

I like crime drama and thrillers. I wish there were more good ones out there with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro. This movie Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans with Nicolas Cage was good. I wasn't sure what to expect but the trailer and the genre made me want to see it.

I enjoyed it and think you will to. This is a good popcorn movie.

Netflix Summary:

Corrupt Det. Terence McDonaugh (Nicolas Cage) -- whose bad habits include pain drugs, reckless sports gambling and accepting sexual bribes -- investigates the murder of five Senegalese illegal immigrants in New Orleans. Co-starring Val Kilmer as McDonaugh's partner, Xzibit as drug supplier Big Fade and Eva Mendes as prostitute Frankie Donnenfield, director Werner Herzog's action drama is a loose update of Abel Ferrara's 1992 film, Bad Lieutenant.

Funny People

This comedy Funny People about funny people wasn't really funny. It had a couple of good jokes, but not enough. The characters were not likeable even though I like all the actors in this movie.

You know how sometimes the trailer shows all the good stuff in a movie. Well, this is one of those movies. Pass on this movie and watch SuperBad or Click or any of their other movies.

Netflix Summary:

Famous and wealthy funnyman George Simmons (Adam Sandler) doesn't give much thought to how he treats people until a doctor (Torsten Voges) delivers stunning health news, forcing George to reevaluate his priorities with a little help from aspiring stand-up comic Ira (Seth Rogen). Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) writes and directs this moving comedy that also stars Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza.

The Descent: Part 2

I watched the first horror movie The Descent and that was both scary and good. Usually the follow up movies aren't as good. This movie's sequel is an exception.

It was a good scary movie. If you are in the mood for a horror thriller, then movie this will fit the bill. Enjoy!

Netflix Summary:

In this gruesome thriller, blood-drenched Sarah Carter (Shauna MacDonald) surfaces as the lone escapee from the savage cave-dwelling Crawlers that terrorized her and five others. And Sarah once again battles to cheat death, as she clings to the hope that her friends are alive.

The Time Traveler's Wife

This movie is based on a book that I didn't read. I am sure the book is better than the movie (they always are), but I enjoyed this movie anyways. Time travel is just one of those subject matters that interest me. Like the Back to the Future trilogy with Michael J Fox.

The acting was decent, storyline understandable, and overall this romance movie was entertaining. Grab some popcorn and watch it when you get a chance.

Netflix Summary:

Due to a genetic disorder, handsome librarian Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) involuntarily zips through time, appearing at various moments in the life of his true love, the beautiful artist Clare Abshire (Rachel McAdams). Also starring Ron Livingston as Gomez, the soul-stirring romantic drama was adapted from the best-selling Audrey Niffenegger novel by Bruce Joel Rubin, the screenwriter behind the beloved weepy Ghost.

The Final Destination 4 aka Final Destination 4; Final Destination: Death Trip

I have always liked these thriller movies that involve the future or visions. I have watched all the Final Destination movies which are all decent. The first one was probably the best.

However this latest release was pretty good. I enjoyed it and think you will too. So grab some popcorn and have some fun.

Netflix Summary:

Young Nick O'Bannon (Bobby Campo) thinks he's cheated death when he keeps a grisly premonition from becoming reality, saving his friends and himself from being crushed in a catastrophic accident -- but the survivors soon realize that fate has other plans. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I meant to watch this movie a long time ago, but just never got to it until now. The trailer looked good and it had strong actors in it. However, I didn't want to get my expectations to high as to avoid disappointment.

This romantic movie was very enjoyable and definitely different. The acting was solid, the storyline great, and the pace of the movie kept me interested all the way to the very end. I would definitely recommend watching this one.

Netflix Summary:

David Fincher directs this Oscar-nominated tale of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) -- a man who was born old and wrinkled but grows younger as the years go by -- with a screenplay adapted from a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The plot throws linear conventions upside down to explore love, loss and memory from the perspective of a character living under incredibly unique -- and unexpectedly difficult -- circumstances. Cate Blanchett co-stars.

Carriers 2009

I like watching scary horror movies. Unfortunately, you have to watch alot of bad ones before you see a good one. It is much easier to enjoy them if you lower your expectations and focus on being entertained.

This movie had a good trailer and started out fine. But by the end of the movie, I regretted watching it. The characters were annoying and the story was too weak. This made the movie start to seem longer than it was. Avoid this one and eat your popcorn with some other movie.

Netflix Summary:

As a lethal virus spreads across the globe, brothers Brian (Chris Pine) and Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), along with Bobby (Piper Perabo) and Kate (Emily VanCamp), seek a supposed plague-free haven. But while circumventing those infected, the travelers begin to turn against one another. Real-life brothers Alex Pastor and David Pastor write and direct this apocalyptic chiller, which co-stars Christopher Meloni.

Good Hair with Chris Rock

This movie is actually a documentary with Chris Rock. The subject matter is focused on the business of hair. I am surprised about how much women pay for wigs and weaves. It is insane.

Both my wife and I enjoyed this movie. It made us laugh a few times, but most of all it is informative. Check it out.

Netflix Summary:

Actor and stand-up comic Chris Rock hops around the world going from beauty salons to science labs to comb through the mystery of African American hair in director Jeff Stilson's astute, hilarious documentary. Rock contemplates the purpose and application of a weave as well as women's self-esteem and their locks. He also gains varying insights from Ice-T, Nia Long, Rev. Al Sharpton, Raven-Symoné, Maya Angelou and other celebrities.

A Single Man

This was a good movie with good acting and an interesting storyline. I didn't really hear anything about this when it came out even though Colin Firth was nominated for an Oscar in this role. I think it might be because of the subject matter. Anyways, it was enjoyable and worth watching.

Netflix Summary:

This stream-of-consciousness, 1960s-era drama centers on a day in the life of George Falconer (Colin Firth, in an Oscar-nominated role), an English-born, Los Angeles college professor reeling from the recent death of his lover of 16 years. Fashion designer Tom Ford makes his directoral debut with this luminous film, which is based on Christopher Isherwood's novel. Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode, Ginnifer Goodwin, Lee Pace and Nicholas Hoult co-star.

Ninja Scroll

I do enjoy a good anime movie and this Ninja Scroll was pretty good. It received raving 5 star reviews, but I wouldn't go that far. I thought it was just pretty good.

Be forewarned that this particular anime is adult oriented. I was initially shocked when I watched because I wasn't aware of it. This one is definitely not for kids.

If you like anime, then I think you will enjoy this film.

Netflix Summary:

When a monster made of rock attacks a band of ninjas, a masterless ninja named Jubei heroically saves the life of the beautiful female warrior Kagero. But Jubei succumbs to an elderly ninja's treachery and finds himself facing certain death -- unless he agrees to join the quest for vengeance. Set in feudal Japan, writer-director Yoshiaki Kawajiri's thrilling anime feature is bloody, violent and full of imagination.

Dear John

This movie for me was just so so. At times it was annoying because of the decisions the characters make in the story. Would I watch it again? Heck no. Could I recommend watching this movie? No, I would say pass on this one.

I would probably go watch the Notebook again for a better love story. That one is much better.

Netflix Summary:

While on leave, U.S. soldier John Tyree (Channing Tatum) falls for Southern college student Savannah (Amanda Seyfried), whose ideals and heartfelt principles are at once attractive and unfamiliar. But their love is put on hold when terrorist attacks prompt John to reenlist. Now, handwritten letters hold the lovers together. Lasse Hallstrom directs this modern romance based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks.

Pirate Radio

This music themed movie was better than I expected. The trailer didn't look appealing to me, but the movie was much better. It had good acting, an interesting storyline, and overall kept my interest. I would recommend you watching this.

Netflix Summary:

In 1966, hard-partying British DJs -- a crew that includes Quentin (Bill Nighy), the Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Gavin (Rhys Ifans) and Dave (Nick Frost) -- have the time of their lives running a radio station on a ship in the North Sea, broadcasting generation-defining (but banned) music to millions. But they face getting shut down by Sir Alistair Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh). Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral) directs.

Battle of the Warriors aka Mo gong

I personally enjoy these period piece movies. This one was a bit long, but enjoyable for me. I didn't have the foreign language version with subtitles. I had to suffer with the English dubbing. You know the type of film where they try to make the words fit in with the mouth movements.

Netflix Summary:

Tension swirls in ancient China as the evil Zhao commander Xiang Yan-zhong (Sung-kee Ahn) sets his sights on conquering the small city-state of Liang, where the residents would be otherwise defenseless if it weren't for the valiant warrior Ge Li (Andy Lau). Jacob C.L. Cheung (Hero) directs this epic action-drama based on the popular Japanese manga, based in turn on a Japanese novel about China's Warring States Period.

New York, I Love You

  • First of all, they sure had a lot of actors in this movie? Many actors I have enjoyed in other movies. The acting was great, but the movie was boring. I would like to say it is awful because it just doesn't keep my interest. Such a waste of talent and effort. I have seen many movies that try to take a slice of life, but this particular attempt was convoluted and strained.

You can watch it because I am sure it has actors that you like too. But I personally can't recommend it nor would I ever watch it again.

Netflix Summary:

A companion piece to Paris, je t'aime, this valentine to New York cleverly blends nearly a dozen love stories, each presented by a different filmmaker. From Central Park to Brooklyn and Queens, each tale features the Big Apple as a central character. The writer-directors include Natalie Portman and Brett Ratner, and the cast features Shia LaBeouf, James Caan, Julie Christie, Christina Ricci, Ethan Hawke and dozens more.

Cast:Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Justin Bartha, Shia LaBeouf, Eva Amurri, Anton Yelchin, Blake Lively, Hayden Christensen, Orlando Bloom, Robin Wright Penn, Christina Ricci, Ethan Hawke, Rachel Bilson, John Hurt, James Caan, Carlos Acosta, Julie Christie, Qi Shu, Maggie Q, Cloris Leachman, Eli Wallach, Chris Cooper, Drea de Matteo, Olivia Thirlby, Andy Garcia, Jacinda Barrett, Irrfan Khan, Taylor Geare

Tokyo Sonata

This was a great foreign film that my wife picked to watch. I was impressed with the way the story is told from the point of views from every family member. I think there were many metaphors in the film on Japanese culture and of today's times. Bottom line is I enjoyed this movie very much and think you will too.

Netflix Summary:

From Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa comes a drama about the Sasakis, an ordinary Japanese family living a bucolic life -- until the father is abruptly laid off from his job and decides to keep the news from his wife and kids. Soon, the father's sense of shame, and the indignity he faces while passing each day in the park in his suit and tie, quickly turns into a rage that proves to hold irrevocable consequences for all concerned
